CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF LOUISVILLE, Ky.
— A charitable tax credit that helps Christian charities get more donations and more donations is expected to be extended to Christian charities in Louisville.
The extension was announced Thursday by the Louisville-based Greater Louisville Council of Churches, which represents about 5,000 nonprofit organizations.
The extension would help churches with the need to operate and operate at a high-end level.
The new credit will provide additional support for charitable organizations that are trying to grow, expand or expand operations, such as hospitals, food pantries, churches and charities.
The credit will also provide additional aid to churches that have experienced financial hardship because of a decrease in charitable contributions.
Louisville-based nonprofit Greater Louisville Charities will receive $15 million to help its churches continue to grow.
That will be supplemented by an additional $1 million for churches that receive a grant from the Greater Louisville Community Foundation.
Greater Louisville churches that qualify for that grant will get $20 million, up from $10 million.
The new extension also includes an additional benefit for charities that are participating in the National Charity Tax Deduction program.
The program provides $25 million in tax credits to charities that receive $500,000 or more in donations.
The additional $25.5 million will go to churches and non-profits that receive at least $250,000 in donations from a single donor.
